Podcast Episode 05 - Augmented Reality: life as we will know it.
July 3, 2009 22
Augmented Reality. It sounds like it is a concept taken straight from Star Trek. And actually, it is (well, it’s a holodeck kind of thing).
AR is a technology which ‘enhances’ or ‘augments’ what you observe in real life with digital content in real time. That digital content can be 3D-imagery, simple text balloons or anything in between.
Mandatory, of course, is some kind of screen for the digital content to be projected on. Think your car’s windshield. Think any phone equipped with a camera and an internet connection. Think headmounted displays. Think eyewear, as in ’surprisingly ordinary looking glasses’ or even contact lenses (hey, the glasses exist already but the contact lenses will soon follow, we gather).
Once you’ve discovered it and start to think about it, the marketing communication potential of this emerging technology becomes blaringly obvious. Especially when every single one of us will soon carry around everything that is needed to start the experience.
Enjoy the podcast.
